Sprawling Interconnections

By  Michael Marshall

Taking refuge in the Fort Garry campus tunnels on a biting cold winter day has been a tradition long enjoyed by University of Manitoba students, faculty and staff. But the tunnels aren’t just conduits for getting from one building to the next, they are also canvases for eye-catching art. The latest addition to our collection (seen here) is by far the largest. Stretching 70 metres through the tunnel connecting the Extended Education and Architecture 2 buildings, it is one of more than a dozen murals bringing creativity and colour to U of M’s underground passages. Working through the night until sunrise, Vladimir Kraynyk [BFA(Hons)/14] took four months to complete the mural in 2013. Click here to read the full story.
