In the spirit of inclusion and to celebrate the university’s diversity, there were a number of campus events

The University of Manitoba is a proud sponsor of the Winnipeg Pride Festival – a multi-day celebration with many events for all segments of the city’s diverse community.

In the spirit of inclusion and to celebrate the university’s own diversity there are a number of events planned for both the Bannatyne and Fort Garry Campuses throughout the week of Pride.

Friday, May 27

Drag Show
Brodie Atrium | 12:00-1:00
Pride kickoff with fabulous drag performances.

Monday, May 30

Pride Flag Raising
Brodie Centre | 8:30-9:00 am
Join President Barnard and other honoured speakers in raising the Pride flag to mark the first year of the U of M’s participation in Pride. The Pride flag will also go up on the Fort Garry campus that same morning, at the corner of University Crescent and Chancellor Matheson Rd.

Panel Discussion: LGBTTQ* Health Care Panel
Theatre B, Basic Medical Sciences Building (Bannatyne Campus) | 12:00-1:00
Highlighting the experiences of going through health care training and practicing in the health care field as a member of the LGBTTQ* community. Panel will be open for discussion. All are welcome to attend.

Love and Let Love
First floor, Elizabeth Dafoe Library
The university community is invited to check out the display: Love and Let Love featured on the first floor of the Elizabeth Dafoe Library. It includes archived material, Pride T-shirts and posters, as well as recent academic materials produced by in and around our community. The display, which runs until June 10, was curated by archivist Natalie Vielfaure from Archives and Special Collections and Katherine Penner, the undergraduate services librarian.

Thousands of people are expected to join in the annual Pride Parade through downtown Winnipeg to show off their Pride! Watch as floats and groups show off our city’s rainbow colours! To walk with and participate in the U of M float contact Susie [dot] Taylor [at] umanitoba [dot] ca.
