New matching campaign lets donors double the impact of their gift to the U of M

July 7, 2014 —

On June 6, the Alumni Association of the University of Manitoba launched an exciting matching campaign with a goal of raising $2 million to support two priority areas: the Active Living Centre and the university’s graduate students. Every donation made during the campaign will be matched, dollar for dollar, by the Alumni Association, doubling its potential.

The Alumni Association is encouraging all members of the U of M community, including alumni, to join in its efforts to support wellness in our province and to help shape Manitoba’s leaders of tomorrow.

Increased support for these areas will help students like Cody – a Bison Athlete studying in the Faculty of Science. Cody is one of many students who use fitness facilities like the“Gritty Grotto”, which has not been significantly updated in years. A gift to the new Active Living Centre will help provide a state of the art health, wellness and research facility that will serve both our campus and the broader community.

Support for graduate students will help the U of M offer competitive financial offers to students like Monika – the former President of our Graduate Students Association and master’s student in family social sciences. Manitoba offers the lowest level of graduate student support in Canada, which is why support for this area is crucial, helping to put deserving grad students on the frontlines of research and innovation in our province.
