Every Friday, you will likely see a line outside the cafe doors as UM students and staff line up for their perogies. A Friday special that has been around for nearly ten years, the perogy platter is a staple that keeps the campus community coming back for more every week.

Dr. Marcia Anderson presents at the 2024 Marjorie Ward Lecture

February 9, 2024 — 
Dr. Marcia Anderson has spent a lot of time thinking about how anti-racist and social justice change will happen in the health care system and has advocated for cultural interventions in health care for many years. On March 11, the change-maker and Vice-Dean of Indigenous health, social justice and anti-racism in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences will present the Marjorie Ward lecture.

A 29-year history comes to life for Les Wiens

The long-time alum met his wife in his second class held in St John’s, where they connected, studied together, and met many friends whom are still connected to this day. Amongst meeting his wife and staying connected with his close friends, also known as “the beer boys,” Les and Terry Wiens have always felt at home in St John’s.

A lifer in St John’s residence since his first year of studies, Hamidou has evolved as a third-year Asper School of Business student looking to spread his experience into entrepreneurship. Originally from West Africa, the Resident Don moved into St John’s residence when he began his journey at the University of Manitoba.

Bringing two communities together at the Daily Bread Cafe

The Daily Bread Cafe in St John’s College is known for its delicious food and the communities it brings together, like CanU. CanU is a not-for-profit organization that serves children in grades five through twelve with programming to prepare them for post-secondary education.  

How a small community transformed a science student experience

Whether it's during a class, around the science faculty, or in the St John's College Student Association lounge, you can often find Karis Park studying or socializing with her colleagues in these places. We sat down with the fourth-year science student, also a 2023 St John's scholarship recipient, about her experience at St John's and how her student membership has improved her student experience at UM.

Apply ecological thinking to the world of theology

After his successful Ph.D. defence in Birminham, UK, Ryan Turnbull brought his knowledge of theology to his new role as the Diocesan Discipleship Developer in the Diocese of Rupert's Land.
