Name LEE, SHEU L. FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP IN ONCOLOGY RESEARCH

Eligibility Through a bequest left to the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba division) by Mr. Sheu Lee, two annual scholarships of $3,000 each are to be made available to graduate students conducting research in the area of Oncology.

The scholarships will be offered to two students who:
  • are enrolled as part-time or full-time students in the Faculty of Graduate Studies either in the Faculty of Nursing (either in the Master's program (Oncology focus) or the PhD program in Cancer Control), or in the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts, or in the Max Rady College of Medicine;
  • have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) in the graduate program (if 12 credit hours or greater has been completed) or, in the last 60 credit hours of their undergraduate program (students entering from the Max Rady College of Medicine who graduated in good standing will be considered eligible);
  • are conducting or plan to conduct research in the area of Oncology that is consistent with the strategic priority areas set out in the National Strategy for Cancer Control; prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and end-of-life care.

    Preference will be given to students from rural Manitoba, which will be determined by the high school the student graduated from. Please indicate this in your letter of application.


The recipients of this award may hold it with any other award. The scholarship is not renewable but a recipient may reapply in each year of study.

Tenable at Must be an admitted UM student registered in the 2024-2025 academic year. UM Graduate students must be registered in both Fall 2024 & Winter 2025 terms to be eligible for this award.

Complete Applications must include:

1. Summary of research (Statement of Intent) written in plain language that includes the following information:

  • name and location of high school graduated from;
  • program, department, research focus;
  • The letter must provide a summary of the research that the student is conducting or plans to conduct and will outline the relevance of the research to the study of Oncology.

Your Summary must be in plain language and should be readable by someone with a background in the discipline but with no specialized knowledge of the particular field of research.

Maximum 3 pages, no format requirements.

Letter can be addressed to Sheu L. Lee Family Scholarship in Oncology Research Award Selection Committee.

Optional: You may append your Research Proposal (in addition to the required 3 page summary).

2. A letter of support from a supervisor or graduate program head.

Once your referee submits their recommendation, it is automatically uploaded within your online application.
