The 2024-2025 Application is Now Closed
Each Faculty/School/College may nominate up to two Master’s and two Doctoral students for each of the Governor General’s Gold Medals, respectively.
Nominations must be submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies on or before the deadline and are to include:
(1) a letter from the Dean/Director of the Faculty/School/College giving a detailed rationale for the nomination;
(2) the nominee’s curriculum vitae;
(3) a copy of the nominee’s University of Manitoba transcript;
(4) a brief, written statement by the nominee (500 words maximum) summarizing the significance of their accomplishments and knowledge gained during their graduate program (e.g., research and related accomplishments, knowledge acquired, etc.).
(5) a letter of support from the advisor, unit head, or graduate chair; and,
(6) a copy of the report from the external examiner for PhD students

The selection committee will be named by the Vice-Provost (Graduate Education) and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (or designate).The selection committee will include the Dean and Associate Dean(s) of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and three members of the Executive Committee representing areas of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Medical and Health Sciences or designates. The Dean shall act as Chair.
Please check with your faculty/unit if you are interested in being nominated for the award. The deadline for faculties and units to have their nominations to FGS is March 28, 2025, however the deadline by which a faculty/unit wants to have nominations submitted to them will most likely be earlier. Please check with your department for their submission deadline.
