Bisons kick off season at Investors Group Field on Friday night

September 10, 2014 —

The University of Manitoba Bisons football team will have home-field advantage for the first time this season when host the Regina Rams for their home opener on Friday night. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m., but that is only a part of the festivities that will mark the Bisons’ second season at Investors Group Field.

The team opened their 2014 season on the road last weekend, dropping a disappointing 44-24 decision to the Saskatchewan Huskies. The Bisons are looking to repeat the results of their 2013 home opener, when they began their time at Investors Group Field by crushing the University of Alberta Golden Bears 65-41 in front of a huge audience.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the party begins at 6:40 p.m. with a pre-game pep rally. This will be the biggest, most incredible pep rally the University of Manitoba has ever seen. The festivities will include the introduction of all varsity sports teams, and will culminate in a pyrotechnic show.

Student tickets are only $8 (plus fees), while general admission tickets are $15 (plus fees), available at Ticketmaster.ca. If you can’t make it to campus, the game will be televised live as the Canada West Shaw Game of the Week, and radio broadcast can be heard on 101.5 UMFM.

Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item for the University of Manitoba Food Bank. Volunteers will be at the gate collecting donations at each home game this season. All donations support the University of Manitoba Food Bank which seeks to reduce hunger on campus by providing food donations to full-time students who cannot afford safe, healthy, acceptable food.
