Faculty and staff can now access UM Careers

Internal applicants can use Employee Self-Service to view and/or apply for positions

November 7, 2017 —

As of Nov. 5, faculty and staff can now access UM Careers, the new recruitment platform that lists all academic and staff positions, using their personal Employee Self Service account (accessed through JUMP).

All U of M internal applicants are asked to use Employee Self Service (ESS) rather than create a second/external account. This is to avoid duplicate accounts, which can affect seniority calculations and may adversely affect accessing other university systems.

Prospective U of M employees who have never worked at the university will create an external account.

Instructions, frequently asked questions and tutorial videos can be found on the human resources’ website.

Background

The UM Careers project team, which includes representatives from human resources, information services and technology, the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science, has designed and developed this new platform to view, post and apply for careers at the U of M. The change was initiated due to the discontinuation of service by the vendor supporting REACH-UM.

In preparation for the new UM Careers platform, over 200 people have been trained in 22 sessions  at both the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses. Training materials and videos have also been developed.

The plan to initially include only staff positions on the new platform and  later incorporate academic positions had to be amended on October 19, when the academic database — over a decade old — experienced major technical difficulties.

At this time, the posting and advertising process for academic positions will remain the same. Departments are asked to send the ad along with the advertising form to human resources, which will approve and coordinate all publications. In the near future, a project team will be established to evaluate the posting process for academic positions.
