Equity, diversity and inclusion workshop offered to faculty and staff

Registration now open for April 18 session

April 2, 2019 —

A new, interactive equity, diversity and inclusion workshop is being offered through learning and organizational development. Participants will have the opportunity to explore relationship-building and ways of creating an inclusive culture.

“We are going to look at the different ways to make a positive difference in our community,” says workshop facilitator Valerie Williams, equity, diversity and inclusion facilitator, learning and organizational development, human resources.

“Today, more than ever, we are working together to create inclusive spaces, and building our capacities for open dialogue and discussion, with a focus on removing barriers and creating positive, creative change.”

The workshop, entitled EDI 2.0, will provide a forum for open dialogue in a safe space so we can learn by listening to the ideas and stories of others, and build a shared understanding of what inclusion looks like and feels like for all. Participants will be invited to share perspectives on ways to remove barriers, build a culture that embraces our differences, and discuss ways to offer respect in words and actions for all people.

We want to realize an inclusive campus—and that means “finding ways to disrupt the status quo and identify steps that we can take to create and support change,” adds Williams.

The next session will be held on Thursday, Apr. 18 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
