International Week 2016 asks us to “Rethink Forced Migration

This annual event, which this year runs from Feb. 10-12, is designed to raise awareness about international issues and highlight the many international opportunities available to U of M students.

Event highlights

What comes to mind when you hear of environmentally displaced refugees? Panel discussion on environmental displacement and refugees: Feb. 10, 2:30-3:20 p.m. in Rm. 223, Wallace

Who are today’s forced migrants?  The Reel-Awareness Film Festival will explore this question and many more: Feb. 10-12, various times; Rm. 231, Isbister

Connect and engage with organizations involved in the development sector, and network with other students and staff: Feb. 10, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Fireside Lounge in University Centre.

 

How international is the U of M?

  • In 2014, we had 4,464 international students at the graduate and undergraduate level, up from 3,869 students in 2013 (source: Institutional Analysis website).
  • Our international students join us from over 100 countries around the world. Our alumni are just as international, with 131,000 of them living in 131 countries around the world.
  • We have formal study abroad exchange agreements for undergraduate students in 29 countries.
  • We have faculty engaging in teaching and research in countries all over the world, on every continent and in almost every discipline.
  • We have staff facilitating co-curricular community service-learning programs in Bangladesh, Belize, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Tanzania.
  • We have our first UM International Strategy that was finalized in September 2014 after extensive consultation, providing us with direction as we continue to internationalize our institution.
