April Concerts

As the academic year winds down, enjoy some compelling performances from the Desautels Faculty of Music.

The UM Wind Ensemble and the UM Concert Band present Band Night in Canada!

Selected repertoire for the final event of the season includes La Fiesta Mexicana by H. Owen Reed, Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland, Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky and Children’s March by Percy Grainger

When: April 1, 2016, 8 pm
Where: Jubilee Place at MBCI, 173 Talbot Avenue
Tickets: $15.00 for adults, $5.00 for students – available in advance from the Music General Office (T319 Tache Arts Complex, 136 Dafoe Road) or cash at the door

Chamber Music Ensembles, coordinated by Dr. Judy Kehler Siebert, present their final performances of the winter term.

When: March 31, 2016, 7 pm
April 2, 2016, 1 pm
Where: Eva Clare Hall, Music Building, 65 Dafoe Road
Free admission

The University Singers and UManitoba Women’s Chorus, directed by Dr. Elroy Friesen, and the UManitoba Concert Choir, directed by Dr. Catherine Robbins, present the annual Spring Concert:  Noctis Lucere … Night to Shine

When: April 2, 2016, 8 pm
Where: Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, 525 Wardlaw Avenue
Tickets: $15.00 for Adults, $7.00 for Students
Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Music General Office, T319 Tache Arts Complex, or from a choir member. Some tickets may also be available at the door.

Collegium Musicum Ensemble presents Musica Verna. Directed by Dr. James Maiello, the ensemble focuses on early music, with a repertoire featuring works from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and the Baroque periods.

When: April 3, 2016, 3 pm
Where: St. John’s Chapel College, 92 Dysart Road
Tickets: $10 for adults, $5 for students

The University of Manitoba Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Jon Gordon, perform at the seventh Annual Horace Patterson Foundation Fundraiser, which promotes leadership and community involvement of youth.

When: April 3, 2016, 5 pm

The University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Julian Pellicano, presents The Reformation Symphony. The evening features performances of Verdi’s Overture to Nabucco, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5 “Reformation”, as well as Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 featuring second year student M. Indra Egan on piano, along with a new work by third year composition student Isaac Zee.

When: April 4, 2016, 7:30 pm

Zita Bernstein Competition: Final Round

Bachelor of Music voice students compete for the best solo performance of German Lieder in front of a live audience and a panel of judges including the renowned soprano Elly Ameling.

When: April 6, 2016, 7 pm
Where: Eva Clare Hall, Music Building, 65  Dafoe Road
Free admission

Several small jazz ensembles perform weekly at The Hang, at the Orbit Room. The final event of the academic year includes ensembles led by Steve Kirby, Quincy Davis and Will Bonness.

When: April 6, 2016, 8 pm
Where: The Orbit Room (Nicolino’s Restaurant, Pembina at Chancellor)
