President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. David T. Barnard awards Andrea Edel with the 1st Place win at our 3MT competition

Our 3MT champion won third place and the People’s Choice award at regional competition

May 4, 2014 — 

Andrea Edel, winner of our 3MT competition, competed in the Western Regional Competition on Friday, May 2 and won the People’s Choice award and third place. She will now compete in the National competition at the end of May.

She presented her thesis,  Flaxseed: A Modern Prescription for High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol. Edel is a doctoral students in the department of physiology and she undertakes her research at St-Boniface Hospital Research Centre with her advisors Dr. Grant Pierce and Dr. Michel Aliani.

Edel is interested in studying natural ways of reducing risk factors of heart disease and stroke so that she and others can live a long and healthy life. She is seeking a career as a research scientist with a focus on nutrition and heart health.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland. 3MT® challenges students to consolidate their ideas and research discoveries so they can be presented concisely to a non-specialist audience.
